Helisso - Packaging SWFs for Symbian

Helisso Window

I'd like to briefly introduce you to a tool I helped develop recently for Adobe.

What it does

Helisso is a tool for Microsoft Windows and Apple Mac computers that packages SWFs (along with other assets) into a SIS file for installation onto Nokia S60 v3 and S60 v5 phones.  The SIS file contains an S60 application which displays the SWF content.

The installed S60 application behaves just like any other native application; it appears in the applications menu and the running tasks list.

Helisso has been tested under Windows XP and Apple Mac Leopard (10.5) and Snow Leopard (10.6) operating systems, but may work under systems too.

How it works

The tool itself is an Adobe AIR 2 application containing Python and OpenSSL binaries along with Ensymble and other python scripts.

In future blog articles and lab posts, I shall be explaining in detail how to embed python into your own AIR 2 applications.

Download & More information

For the download and more information please visit Mark Doherty's Helisso blog post on his excellent blog.

Look out for my future blog posts giving more detail on the workings of the tool and how to use similar techniques in your own applications.

In the meantime, feel free to suggest topics or ask questions in the comments section below.
